4 EASY Japanese Bento Box Recipes for Beginners

1. Ketchup-based Spaghetti Bento Box

Ingredients (for 1 serving)

Ketchup-based spaghetti (Naporitan)
・2.3 oz (65g) Spaghetti
・Water for boiling spaghetti
・1/2 tbsp Salt

・1.7 oz (50g) Onion
・1 oz (28g) Carrot
・0.6 oz (17g) Bacon
・1/2-1 tsp Oil
・2 tbsp Ketchup
・1/2 tsp Sugar
・1/2 tsp Stock cube (powder)
・1/2 tsp Soy sauce
・1/2 tsp Butter
・1/2 tsp Mayonnaise

Topping
・Sausage
・Fried egg
・Parmesan cheese

Direction

1. [Ketchup-based spaghetti] Boil spaghetti with plenty of hot water and salt.

2. Slice the onion, carrot, and bacon. Stir-fry them in a pan with a little oil.

3. When the ingredients are cooked to some extent, add ketchup, sugar, stock cube, and soy sauce. Mix well.

4. When the ketchup is a little boiled, turn off the heat. Add butter and mayonnaise, and mix well.

5. Mix the boiled spaghetti with the ketchup-based sauce.

6. [Topping] Cook grilled sausage and fried egg as you like.

2. Ginger Pork Bento Box

Ingredients (for 1 serving)

Ginger pork
・2.7 oz (77g) Thinly sliced pork
・1/2-1 tsp Grated ginger
・1 tsp Soy sauce
・1 tsp Sake

・1/2 tsp Sugar
・1/2 tsp Mirin*
・1 tsp Soy sauce
*If you can’t find mirin, please use sugar.

Stir-fried carrot
・0.6 oz (17g) Carrot
・1/2 tsp Sesame oil
・A pinch of Salt
・A pinch of Grind sesame

Stir-fried spinach
・1.6 oz (45g) Spinach or Japanese mastered spinach (komatsuna)
・1/2 tsp Sesame oil
・1/2 tsp Sugar
・1/2 tsp Soy sauce

Topping
1 boiled egg
Minced takuan (pickled radish)

Direction

1. [Ginger pork] Cut the pork into bite-sized. Season it before baking by rubbing grated ginger, soy sauce, and sake into the pork.

2. Bake the pork in a pan, and add more seasonings: sugar, mirin, and soy sauce.

3. [Stir-fried carrot/spinach] Shred the carrot, and chop the spinach. Stir-fry them in a pan, and add seasonings.

4. [Topping]Make boiled egg, and prepare minced pickled radish.

Ready to eat!

3. Omurice Bento Box

Ingredients (for 1 serving)

Omurice (Japanese rice omelette)
・7 oz (200g) Cooked rice
・1.7 oz (50g) Onion
・0.3 oz (8g) Bacon
・1.2 oz (34g) Sausage
・1 tbsp Corn
・A pinch of Salt
・1/2 tsp Sugar
・1/2 tsp Stock cube (powder)
・1.5 tbsp Ketchup
・1/2 tsp Butter

・1 egg
・1/3 tsp Sugar
・A pinch of Salt
・1/2 tsp Oil

Stir-fried spinach
・1.6 oz (45g) Spinach or Japanese mastered spinach
・0.6 oz (17g) Thin fried tofu
・1/2 tsp Sugar
・1 tsp Ponzu sauce

Topping
・Deep-fried oyster
・Cherry tomato

Direction

1. [Omurice] Mince the onion, bacon, and sausage. Stir-fry them with a little oil in a pan (please add corn here). Add salt, sugar, stock cube, ketchup, and butter. Mix well.

2. When the ketchup is a little boiled, add cooked rice. Mix well.

3. Crack the egg into a bowl. Add salt and sugar, then mix to cut egg whites. Prepare a slightly larger pan, and make thinly roasted egg with a little oil.

4. When the egg has cooled, put a plastic wrap on the bento box, and put the egg on it. Put the ketchup fried rice into the bento box according to the depth of the box. 4. Hamburger Steak Bento Box

Ingredients (for 1 serving)

Hamburger steak
・1 oz (28g) Onion
・1 tsp Oil

・2 tbsp Bread crumbs (panko)
・1 tbsp Milk
・1 tbsp Beaten egg

・3.5 oz (100g) Ground beef+pork
・A pinch of Salt
・1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
・1/2 tsp Oil

・Your favorite sauce for the steak

Spaghetti for side dish
・0.7 oz (20g) Spaghetti
・Water for boiling spaghetti
・A pinch of Salt

・1/2-1 tbsp Ketchup
・1/2 tsp Mayonnaise
・1/2 tsp Parmesan cheese

Topping
・Boiled egg
・Cherry tomato

Direction

1. [Hamburger steak] Mince the onion, and mix it with 1 tsp oil. Put a plastic wrap, and microwave it at 500W for 2 minutes. Take out, and stir well. Microwave again without wrap for 40 sec. When it cools, put it in the refrigerator.

2. When the onions get cold, mix it with bread crumbs, milk, and beaten egg.

3. Put ground meat in a bowl, and add salt and Worcestershire sauce. Mix it with [2]. Stir until the meat becomes sticky.

4. Shape it into a steak. Make the surface as smooth as possible. It’s easier to do if you apply a little oil to your hands.

5. Bake for about 2.5 minutes on medium heat until browned. Turn it over. Cover and bake on low heat for 4 minutes. Pour your favorite steak sauce.

6. [Spaghetti] Cook spaghetti, and drain hot water. Season it with ketchup, mayonnaise, and parmesan cheese.
