6 Homemade Izakaya Dishes – Japanese Food Easy Cooking Recipes

1. Crispy & Juicy Karaage

Ingredients (for 2 servings)

・8.8 oz (250g) Chicken thigh

・0.4 cup (100ml) Water★
・10g Salt★
・10g Sugar★

・1 tbsp Sake☆
・1 tbsp Soy sauce☆
・1/2 Egg☆
・1/2 tsp Grated garlic☆
・1/2 tsp Grated ginger☆
・1/2 tsp Oyster sauce☆
・1/2 tsp Sugar☆
・A pinch of Salt and pepper☆

・2.5 tbsp Flour
・2.5 tbsp Potato starch

・Oil for frying

Direction

1.  Cut chicken into small pieces. Soak them in ★ for 30 minutes to make the chicken juicy.

2.  After 30 minutes, remove moisture from chicken thoroughly with paper towel.

3.  Soak chicken in marinade sauce made with ☆ for 20 minutes.

4.  In a separate bowl, mix flour with potato starch. Transfer the chicken into this bowl. Mix well.

5.  Fry in oil for 3-4 minutes on each side.

2. Authentic Oden

Ingredients (for 4 servings)

・10 oz (280g) Daikon
・8.5 oz (240g) Satsuma-age (Deep-fried fish paste)
・7.7 oz (220g) Konjac (Konnyaku)
・3.5 oz (100g) Hanpen (Fish cake)
・2.8 oz (80g) Chikuwa (Boiled fish paste stick)
・7 Dried knotted kombu
・4 Boiled eggs

・4.2 cups (1000ml) Water
・0.2 cup (40ml) Soy sauce☆
・0.2 cup (40ml) Mirin☆
・1 tbsp Oyster sauce☆
・2 tsp Dashi powder☆
・2 tsp Sugar☆
・A pinch of Salt☆

Topping
・Karashi (Japanese mustard)

Direction

1.  Cut daikon into thick round slices. Make a cross incision on both sides. Make a lattice cut on both sides of konjac and boil in boiling water for 2 minutes.

2.  Put all the ingredients in a big pot. Pour water. Mix ☆ in a bowl, and pour it into the pot.

3.  Simmer for 1 hour (until daikon gets soft). Turn off the heat and let cool for 1 hour to soak up the flavors. (It tastes even better the next day as it soaks up more flavor.)

3. Izakaya-style Tamagoyaki (Rolled Omelet)

Ingredients (for 2 servings)

・3 Eggs☆
・2 tbsp Water☆
・1/2 tsp Sugar☆
・A pinch of Dashi powder☆
・1/2 tsp Oil

Topping
・Grated daikon
・Shiso
・Mayonnaise

Direction

1.  Mix ☆ in a bowl.

2.  Oil the pan. Pour the egg mixture into the pan in about 4 separate batches and roll the eggs. (Please check the YouTube video how to roll it.)

4. 4 Kinds of Skewered Dishes

Ingredients (for 2-3 servings)

Chicken & green onion skewer
・7 oz (200g) Chicken thigh
・1.4 oz (40g) White part of green onion

Tsukune
・3.5 oz (100g) Ground chicken★
・1.7 oz (50g) Onion★
・1 tbsp Potato starch★
・A pinch of Salt and pepper★

Tomato & pork skewer
・3.5 oz (100g) Pork belly
・4 Cherry tomatoes

・Shishito green pepper

Yakitori sauce
・4 tbsp Soy sauce☆
・4 tbsp Mirin☆
・2 tbsp Sugar☆

Direction

1.  Cut chicken and green onion into small pieces. Alternately skewered.

2.  Mince oinon. Mix ★ in a bowl. Form into long, thin sticks and skewer.

3.  Wrap cherry tomatoes with pork belly. Stick on a skewer.

4.  Cut off the head of the green pepper and make a slit. Stick on a skewer.

5.  Cook them in a pan. When they are cooked, take out once. Mix ☆ in a pan, and toss with all kinds of yakitori.

5. Gyutan with Special Sauce

Ingredients (for 2 servings)

・3.5 oz (100g) Gyutan (Beef tongue)
・A pinch of Salt and pepper

Sauce
・1 oz (30g) Minced green onion
・1 tbsp Sesame oil
・1 tsp Lemon juice
・A pinch of Salt
・A pinch of Black pepper

Direction

1.  Prepare thinly sliced gyutan. Sprinkle just a little salt and pepper on one side.

2.  Cook gyutan in a pan.

3.  Put minced green onion in heat resistant bowl. Microwave for 1 minute at 500W. Mix it with lemon juice, salt, and black pepper.

4.  Eat with green onion salt sauce.

6. Izakaya-style Salad

Ingredients (for 2 servings)

・Your favorite vegetables (Cabbage, lettuce, carrot, cucumber, tomato etc.)
・3.5 oz (100g) Tofu
・Corn
・Shiso
・Shirasu (Whitebait/Baby sardine)
・1/2 tsp Sesame oil

Dressing
・2 tbsp Soy sauce☆
・1 tbsp Sesame oil☆
・1 tbsp Sugar☆
・1 tbsp Rice vinegar☆
・1 tsp White sesame seeds☆

Direction

1.  Place vegetables of your choice on a plate.

2.  Fry the shirasu in sesame oil over low heat until crispy, about 5 minutes.

3.  Top vegetables with cut tofu, shirasu, corn, and chopped shiso.

4.  In a mixing bowl, combine ☆. Pour the dressing on the salad as much as you want.
