Last modified date

Looking for an incredibly easy, delicious, and hearty meal? This Teriyaki Butter Beef and Cabbage Rice is a game-changer. Everything goes right into the rice cooker, making it the perfect “lazy” yet gourmet dinner for busy weeknights. The richness of the beef and butter combines perfectly with the sweet and savory teriyaki seasonings.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients:

  • Raw Rice: 150g (5.3 oz)

  • Ground Beef: 120g (4.2 oz)

  • Cabbage: 70g (2.5 oz)

  • Butter: 1-2 tsp

Seasonings (to add to the rice cooker):

  • Water: 200ml (0.85 US cup)

  • Soy Sauce: 1.5 tbsp

  • Mirin: 1 tbsp

  • Sake: 1 tbsp

  • Sugar: 2 tsp

Toppings:

  • Black pepper

  • Salt and pepper

  • Cayenne pepper or Shichimi Togarashi (Japanese chili flakes)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Rice: Wash the rice by changing the water several times until it runs almost clear. Drain completely in a fine-mesh strainer.

  2. Prep the Cabbage: Chop the cabbage into small, bite-sized pieces.

  3. Combine Rice and Seasonings: Place the drained rice into the rice cooker pot. Add the water, soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar. Mix well to ensure the seasonings are distributed.

  4. Layer the Ingredients: Arrange the chopped cabbage around the edges of the pot. Place the ground beef in the center. Flatten the beef slightly so it is submerged in the liquid.

  5. Add Butter: Place the butter directly on top of the beef in the center.

  6. Cook: Close the lid and start the rice cooker using the “Normal” or “White Rice” mode.

  7. Final Touch: Once the cooking is finished, mix everything gently. Season with black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper (or Shichimi Togarashi) to your preference before serving.

TIPS

Heating power varies depending on the rice cooker model, so we recommend filling it to no more than half its capacity. Overfilling the pot may lead to cooking failure.
