      In Japanese, you can say
      ・思っていたより (Omotteitayori)
      ・予想していたより (Yososhiteitayori)

      Example sentences:

      That is smaller than I thought it was.
      あれは思っていたより小さい。
      あれはおもっていたよりちいさい。
      are wa omotteitayori chiisai.

      It was roomier there than I had expected.
      そこは予想していたより広い。
      そこはよそうしていたよりひろい。
      soko wa yoso shiteitayori hiroi.
