[Daikon Miso Soup]

Aburaage (Fried tofu pouch): 1/2 piece
Water: 200ml (0.85 US cup)
Miso paste: 1 tbsp
Note: If using non-dashi miso, add 1/2 tsp of dashi powder.
Instructions
Prepare the Cabbage: Cut the cabbage into bite-sized pieces, wash thoroughly, and drain well. In a bowl, whisk together the sesame paste, ground sesame, sugar, soy sauce, mirin, salt, and MSG. Add the cabbage and toss until well-coated.
Cook the Egg: Beat the egg in a small bowl. Heat 1/2 tsp of oil in a pan over medium heat and scramble the egg until it is firm.
Mix the Onigiri: Place the warm cooked rice in a bowl and let it cool slightly. Add the scrambled egg, shio kombu, salt, and sesame oil. Mix everything together evenly.
Shape the Onigiri: Divide the rice mixture and shape them into triangles (or balls) using your hands.
Prep the Soup Ingredients: Cut the daikon into thin strips (julienne) and slice the aburaage into small rectangular strips.
Boil the Soup: In a small pot, combine the water, daikon, and aburaage. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 4 minutes until the daikon is tender.
Finish the Miso Soup: Turn off the heat and whisk in the miso paste until fully dissolved. (Add dashi powder at this stage if your miso doesn’t already contain it).
Serve: Arrange the onigiri, sesame cabbage, and miso soup on your favorite tray and enjoy your heartful Japanese breakfast!
