Ready to make your new favorite meal? Let’s get started!
Ingredients (For 1 Serving)
In the video, two servings are made, but the amounts for one serving are given here for clarity:
For the Cabbage:
Cabbage: 100g (approx. 3.5 oz), cut into bite-sized pieces
Butter: 1/2 tsp
Vegetable Oil: 1/2 tsp
Soy Sauce: 1 tsp
For the Garlic Butter Soy Salmon:
Salmon Fillet: 80g (approx. 2.8 oz), skin removed, cut into bite-sized pieces
Butter: 1 tsp
Sauce:
Soy Sauce: 2 tsp
Sugar: 1 tsp
Garlic: 1/2 clove, minced
For the Rice:
Japanese Short-Grain Rice: 75g (approx. 2.6 oz)
Water: 100ml (approx. 0.42 US cup, or a scant 1/2 US cup)
Sake (Japanese Rice Wine): 1/2 Tbsp (which is 1.5 tsp)
Soy Sauce: 1 tsp
Topping:
Fresh Parsley: a pinch, minced (for garnish)
Instructions (Easy One-Pot Method!)
Let’s bring this deliciousness to life in just a few simple steps:
Prep the Aromatics & Veggies:
Cut the cabbage and salmon into bite-sized pieces. Finely mince the garlic and parsley. Rinse the rice in cold water until the water runs mostly clear, then drain it well in a sieve.Sauté the Cabbage:
In a medium-sized pot (the one you’ll use for everything!), heat the vegetable oil and 1/2 tsp of butter over medium heat. Add the cabbage and sauté until it softens and wilts slightly. Stir in 1 tsp of soy sauce, mix well, then remove the cabbage from the pot and set it aside.Sear the Salmon & Glaze:
No need to wash the pot! Add the remaining 1/2 tsp of butter. Once melted, add the salmon pieces and sear until lightly browned on all sides. In a small bowl, whisk together 2 tsp soy sauce, 1 tsp sugar, and the minced garlic to create the sauce. Pour this sauce over the salmon in the pot. Toss gently to coat the salmon and let it cook for another minute until the sauce glazes the fish beautifully. Remove the salmon and set it aside with the cabbage.Start the Rice:
Again, no need to wash the pot – those flavorful bits are gold! Add the drained rice to the pot. Pour in the 100ml (approx. 0.42 US cup) of water, 1/2 Tbsp of sake, and 1 tsp of soy sauce. Give it a quick stir to combine everything.Cook the Rice to Perfection:
Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. Bring the liquid to a boil over high heat (this should only take about 1-2 minutes). As soon as it boils, immediately reduce the heat to the lowest possible setting. Let it simmer gently, covered, for 13-15 minutes, or until all the water has been absorbed.
Pro Tip: You’ll know the rice is perfectly cooked when you can smell a slightly toasty, nutty aroma if you get close to the pot!
Once done, turn off the heat and let the rice rest, still covered, for at least 5 minutes (10 is even better!) to steam through.Assemble & Serve:
Fluff the cooked rice gently with a rice paddle or spoon. Create a bed of rice in your bowl. Top generously with the sautéed cabbage and the delicious garlic butter soy salmon. Sprinkle with fresh minced parsley for a pop of color and freshness.
And there you have it! A complete, incredibly flavorful Savory Garlic Butter Salmon One-Pot Rice. Mix everything together as you eat and enjoy every single bite!
I truly hope you give this recipe a try! It’s so easy to make and the flavors are just out of this world. Perfect for a quick weeknight meal that feels like a treat.
