Ponzu sauce is originally made from some kind of citrus fruit juice and vinegar. In addition to that, soy sauce is added in most of the cases. Ponzu sauce can be used as not only a dipping sauce but also as great seasoning in various Japanese cooking.

The 6 Different Types of Ponzu Sauce

1. Karaage with Grated Daikon and Ponzu Sauce

Ingredients (for 2 servings)

・9 oz (260g) Chicken thigh
・1.5 tbsp Sake
・1.5 tbsp Soy sauce
・1 tbsp Grated ginger

・2.5 tbsp All-purpose flour
・2.5 tbsp Potato starch or Corn starch
・Oil for deep-frying

・2 tbsp Ponzu sauce
・Grated daikon
・Minced green onion

Direction

1. Remove extra fat and muscle of the meat, and cut it into 8-10 pieces.

2. Put the meat into a bowl, and mix it with sake, soy sauce, and grated ginger. Put the bowl in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes and let it soak in the taste.

3. Mix flour and potato starch in a clean bowl at a ratio of 1: 1.

4. Coat the meat in the mixture of flour and potato starch.

5. Deep-fry the meat in an oil. Please follow the 3 steps: Firstly, fry at a lower temperature for 3 minutes (turn it over in the way), Secondly, let it rest for 3 minutes. Finally, fry at a high temperature for 1 minute.

6. Dish up karaage on a plate, and put grated daikon on top (please drain the juice in advance). Sprinkle minced green onion, and pour ponzu sauce as much as you want.

Ready to eat!

2. Ponzu Butter Salmon

Ingredients (for 2 servings)

・2 pieces of Salmon
・Salt and pepper
・1 tsp Oil

・1 tsp Butter
・1 tbsp Ponzu sauce
・1 tbsp White wine or Sake
・1.5 tsp Sugar

Direction

1. Sprinkle salt and pepper on the pieces of salmon.

2. Pour oil in a pan, and cook salmon.

3. Put butter, and all of seasonings into the pan. Coat the salmon in the sauce well.

Ready to eat!

3. Crispy Baked Ponzu Chicken Wings

Ingredients (for 2 servings)

・7oz (200g) Chicken wings
・Salt and pepper
・1 tbsp Potato starch or Corn starch
・1tbsp Oil

・1 tbsp Ponzu sauce
・1 tbsp Ketchup
・2 tsp Sugar

Direction

1. Sprinkle salt and pepper on the wings.

2. Thinly coat the wings in potato starch.

3. Pour oil into a pan, and cook wings until the surfaces get golden brown.

4. Mix ponzu sauce, ketchup, and sugar. Then, put the sauce into the pan.

5. Coat the wings in the sauce well.

Ready to eat!

4. Marinated Eggplant and Tomato Salad with Ponzu Sauce

Ingredients (for 2 servings)

・6oz (170g) Eggplant
・6oz (170g) Tomato

・0.5 tbsp Sesame oil

・2 tbsp Ponzu sauce
・1 tsp Sugar
・Shredded ginger

Direction

1. Cut eggplant and tomato into bite-sized.

2. Put the eggplant into a heat resistant bowl, and coat them in the sesame oil well.

3. Microwave the eggplant for 3-4 minutes.

4. Put half the ponzu sauce, sugar, and ginger into the bowl. Mix well, and rest it in the refrigerator for a while so that it soaks in the taste.

5. Take out from the refrigerator. Add tomato and the rest of the ponzu sauce. Then mix well.
