Rice Bowls with Tender Beef and Onions: Oyster Sauce Ver. & Soy Sauce Ver. – JAPANESE RICE BOWLS #6

1. Oyster Sauce Beef and Onion Stir-Fry Bowl

Ingredients (1 serving)

・7 oz (200g) Cooked rice

・3.5 oz (100g) Beef
・1.5 tsp Sake☆
・1/2 tsp Soy sauce☆
・2/3 tsp Potato starch☆
・A pinch of Salt and pepper☆

・3.5 oz (100g) Onion
・2 oz (60g) Asparagus
・2 tsp Oil

・2 tbsp Water★
・2 tsp Oyster sauce★
・2 tsp Mirin★
・1 tsp Sake★
・1 tsp Sugar★
・1 tsp Soy sauce★
・1/2 tsp Shantan (Chicken stock powder)★

・2/3 tsp Potato starch
・1.5 tsp Water

Direction

1.  Cut beef into thin slices. Put the beef in a bowl. Add ☆, and rub the beef to soak up the seasonings.

2.  Cut onion and asparagus into small pieces. Make the sauce in advance by mixing ★.

3.  Oil your pan, and cook the beef first. When it’s cooked, take out once. Add onion and allow the onions to absorb the oil remaining in the pan. Stir-fry onion for about 2 minutes, and then add asparagus and cook for about 1 minute.

4.  Return beef to the pan. Add the sauce (★). Mix well and add potato starch dissolved in water. Stir-fry on high heat for 1-2 minutes, and it’s done. Place on top of rice to complete the dish.

2. Super Quick Gyudon (Beef Bowl)

Ingredients (1 serving)

・7 oz (200g) Cooked rice

・3.5 oz (100g) Beef
・1.7 oz (50g) Onion
・1 clove of Garlic
・1/2 tsp Oil
・1 tbsp Sake☆
・2 tsp Soy sauce☆
・2 tsp Mirin☆
・1 tsp Sugar☆

Topping
・Egg yolk (or Onsen egg or Porched egg)
・Minced green onion

Direction

1.  Cut beef and onion into thin slices. Mince garlic.

2.  Oil your pan, and cook the onion first. Stir-fry for about 2 minutes, and take out once.

3.  Put garlic and ☆ in a pot. Bring to a boil, and add beef. Fry the beef over low heat. When the beef has changed color about halfway through, return the onions to the pot. Fry over low heat until beef is completely cooked. Place on top of rice to complete the dish.
